How HBOT supports your body

Normally, oxygen travels through your body on your red blood cells. In the chamber, the air pressure rises to about 1.3 times normal (around 4 PSI), so more oxygen dissolves into your plasma and other body fluids and can reach your tissues and cells.

The first hyperbaric chamber was built in 1662. Today HBOT is used and studied around the world.

Why we brought HBOT into our clinic

We brought hyperbaric into our office for one of our own patients. Many things in his life had improved with care, but one pattern had not changed, even after specialist referrals and an evaluation at Mayo Clinic. When we were able to bring HBOT into our own space, we did, and adding it to his plan made a real difference for him.

This is one person's experience, not a promise. Results vary from person to person.

HBOT works best with a plan

HBOT isn't a silver bullet. If you are going to invest in sessions, we want you to understand:

  • A protocol that fits your goals
  • Your therapeutic threshold
  • What maintenance looks like
  • Most importantly, what needs to happen outside of the chamber to support long-term change: lifestyle changes, lifestyle biohacks, targeted supplement protocols, detox and more

Sometimes even a few small changes, coupled with your sessions, can make a meaningful difference.

Your first visit: what to expect

Feeling a little nervous before your first session is normal, and we plan for it.

  1. Meet the doctor

A consultation with Dr. Nathan about your health history and goals, to make sure HBOT is a good fit.

  2. See everything first

We show you the chamber, the valve and how the zippers open from the inside. You are never locked in.

  3. Gentle pressure

The chamber fills slowly. Your ears may feel like a plane taking off, so yawn or swallow. Someone stays with you the whole time.

  4. Relax

Rest for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on what feels right for you.

  5. Next steps

We release the pressure slowly, and you leave with recommendations to start using in your daily life.

Before you come: use the restroom, drink some water and skip a big meal. Wear loose, comfortable clothes. Shoes and jewelry come off before your session. Please reschedule if you have a cold, flu, sinus infection or blocked ears, and no alcohol before a session.

HBOT questions

Is HBOT covered by insurance?

Insurance does not cover HBOT.

What's the difference between a soft and a hard chamber?

Ours is a soft (mild) chamber, the OxyHealth Vitaeris 320, which runs at about 4 PSI (1.3 ATA). Hard chambers are rigid, reach higher pressures and are often used in hospitals for specific medical conditions. A soft chamber is a gentler option designed to support your body.

What oxygen do you use?

Concentrated oxygen from an oxygen concentrator, through a mask. We brought our chamber in through Dr. Jason Sonners and HBOT USA. A red light add-on is also available.

How do I choose an HBOT clinic?

Ask a few questions: What kind of chamber is it, and what pressure? Will someone be with me the whole session? Will I meet with a doctor first? Will I get a plan, or just time in the chamber? How is the chamber cleaned between sessions?

Does HBOT replace my medications?

No. Never stop or change a medication or any medical care without talking to your prescribing doctor. HBOT is meant to support your body alongside your care.

Is there anyone who should NOT use HBOT?

The most commonly reported side effect is ear pressure, like when a plane takes off. If you have a history of pneumothorax or can't equalize pressure in your ears, you should avoid HBOT.

How quickly can I expect results?

It depends on your goals. That's why each client gets a personalized protocol.

How many sessions will I need?

It's unique to each person and based on your health history, goals and any active medical conditions.
